About Manchester Symphony Orchestra

Here is a draft about page for a website about the Manchester Symphony Orchestra:

About the Manchester Symphony Orchestra

The Manchester Symphony Orchestra is the premier professional orchestra in Manchester, founded in 1925. Originally known as the Manchester Civic Orchestra, it was later renamed the Manchester Symphony Orchestra in 1965.

Based in Manchester’s iconic Bridgewater Hall, the Orchestra puts on over 150 concerts per year including classical symphonic concerts, pops, family and outreach events. It also regularly collaborates with top guest artists from around the world.

The 100 piece Orchestra is made up of the finest professional musicians from the Manchester area and beyond. It is currently led by renowned conductor Charles Edwards, serving in this role since 2018.

As an anchor cultural institution for the city, the Manchester Symphony Orchestra aims to make orchestral music accessible and engaging to the diverse communities across Greater Manchester. Along with main stage performances, the Orchestra has an active community outreach and music education program – touching the lives of over 15,000 Manchester school children each year through concerts, workshops, instrument drives and mentorships.

The Orchestra is supported by ticket sales, sponsorships, an endowment fund and generous philanthropic contributions. As a non-profit organization, community support makes it possible to keep ticket prices affordable as well as offer special concerts and events available to the public free of charge.
