Meet the Musicians

Tyler KrempaskyName: Tyler Krempasky
Hometown: South Bend, Indiana
Instrument: Violin
Years in MSO: 4 years

What is your favorite Christmas movie? Why?
The Grinch. It is the opposite of Christmas cheer, but I have been a big Grinch fan since I was a young kid.

If you could meet any composer, who would it be? Why?
Jean-Luc Ponty. He is one of the greatest violinists of our day and introduced me to his jazz-fusion style. I have seen him live and have followed his music for years.

What piece of music have you played most often?
Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. I played it in high school for a state ISSMA ensemble and we put in so much time on that one piece. Since then I have enjoyed bringing it back out of the folder during practices because it is a fun piece to play.

Why did you choose to play your instrument?
Orchestra became available at school during fourth grade. My family has a short history of musicians and I had friends sign up who were interested. Those friends eventually dropped out and I continued to play because it is a great intellectual skill and a stress reliever. It is a great rush to play on a stage with great musicians for a crowd of listeners.
