The MSO Student President

Rachel NowakRachel Nowak is a senior at Manchester University from Crown Point, Indiana, majoring in Elementary Education with Mild Intervention. She is the Student President of the Manchester Symphony Orchestra, and has held this position since the 72nd season.

Growing up, Rachel had a passion for music. She began playing the violin in fourth grade, and has earned many awards for solo and ensemble contests when performing in the ISSMA competitions. During the summer of sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, Rachel took advantage of an opportunity to attend a week-long camp at Valparaiso University to perform in an orchestra combined with players from all over the world. Throughout middle school and high school, she volunteered for five summers to teach students how to play the violin during the orchestra camp provided by her school. At Crown Point High School, Rachel performed in the Symphony Orchestra where she lettered all four years in the music department.

In addition to her studies at Manchester University, Rachel finds time to work, be an athlete, and participate in various clubs and activities on campus. Rachel has thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work the professional musicians in the Manchester Symphony Orchestra and feels she has gained a vast amount of insight from their experience. Although Rachel is not a music major, she certainly plans to continue playing her violin and incorporate music into her future plans of becoming an elementary teacher.
