Meet the Musicians

Kelsey AirgoodName: Kelsey Airgood
Hometown: Simsbury, Connecticut
Instrument: Viola
Year Joined MSO: Fall 2009

When did you get your first instrument and what was it?
My family is very musical, so I've been around instruments my whole life, but my very first instrument of my own was my first viola in 6th grade (2001).

What kind of music do you listen to? Who is your favorite band?
All kinds. I love Motown, classical, jazz and swing, along with the current folk scene. I have lots of favorite bands, however the current ones I've listened to the most have been The Proclaimers, along with the Temptations.

If you were given an opportunity to learn another instrument, what would you choose and why?
Clarinet - From a very small age I loved Benny Goodman and wanted to be able to play like him. Cello - It has a beautiful mellow sound a place to rest your head during long rests... just kidding...

What do you do for a living?
I'm a junior Environmental Studies major.

What piece of music have you played the most often in your years of experience?
Jingle Bells, every year.

What is your favorite book?
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith and The Things They Carried Away by Tim O'Brien
